Parents or players send game video — a phone clip from the stands, a LiveBarn link, whatever you've got. If possible, send just your child's shifts: it keeps the whole review focused on them.

Coach Breaks It Down

The coach studies every clip and builds a breakdown around 2–3 key focus areas: hockey IQ, positioning, and decision-making — the details that separate good from great.

Live Mentorship Session

A live video call with the player (parents welcome) going through the film together — real coaching, specific to your game, with a development plan you can take to the next practice.

Meet Jake Bullen

Coach Jake Bullen on the ice

Jake Bullen is the founder of Ascent Hockey and a dedicated player development coach with over 12 years of experience working with athletes across Prep, AAA, and Junior A hockey.

As a former Junior A and U SPORTS player, Jake understands the demands of advancing through the game and the importance of detailed development beyond practices and games. Through Ascent Hockey, he provides personalized video analysis, hockey IQ education, and mentorship designed to help players better understand their game and reach their full potential.

Currently serving as a coach in the CSSHL, one of Canada's premier development leagues, Jake has built a reputation for his attention to detail, honest feedback, and commitment to long-term player growth. His experience in recruiting, player evaluation, and skill development allows him to provide athletes with professional-level insights that translate directly to on-ice performance.

At Ascent Hockey, the focus is simple: help players understand the game at a deeper level, identify areas for improvement, and build a clear path toward their goals.
